Workshop for Enhancing Regulatory Measures on Pest Risk Management of Giant African Land Snails. 10th – 12th June, 2025

 A 3-day Workshop on Enhancing Regulatory Measures on Pest Risk Management of Giant African Land Snails (GALS) has started at Metta Resort, Paro which is being organized by BFDA HQ in close collaboration with Regional Office, BFDA Mongar. The main objectives of the workshop were to

  • Enhance the capacity of field officials on the pest risk assessment and GALS management
  • Develop transformational recommendations to step up plant quarantine measures

 The internal facilitator from the Bhutan Food and Drug Authority (BFDA) is expected to provide comprehensive presentations on (1) GALS; its outbreak and field data collection, (2) Technical Aspects of the AF-Project and its implementation, and (3) The Best Management Practices of GALS. The program will also cover on pest risks assessment updates and impact regard to agriculture commodities including wood species. Furthermore, the workshop will also strengthen on the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) for regulation of pesticides and its safe management practices. The program is supported through Adaptation Fund Project and Royal Government of Bhutan. About 22 participants, from various BFDA field offices is taking part in the workshop.
