BFDA is mandated by the aforementioned legislations to:

• Ensure quality and safety of food and feed;
• Ensure quality, safety and effectiveness of medical products;
• Regulate narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances (NDPS), precursor chemicals and tobacco and tobacco products; and
• Protect biodiversity, environment and agricultural system from pests and diseases, invasive species and genetically modified organisms.
